This exhibition is the first overview of the oeuvre of Belgian artist Jan Van Imschoot. He is internationally renowned for his intimate, mysterious works from the early 1990s and his recent large-scale, historically inspired scenes.

In the 1990s a group of artists laid the foundations for the critical revaluation of figurative painting. Van Imschoot’s oeuvre occupies a unique place thanks to the profound awareness of art history with which he paints. In addition to the traditional history of Western painting, film and literature are also important pillars of Van Imschoot’s creative universe. This is something the exhibition pays attention to as well. Along a chronological route spanning over thirty years, you will discover more than eighty of his works.
